IRS to Distribute Automatic $1,400 Stimulus Payments to Eligible Taxpayers in February 2025

The IRS is issuing automatic payments of up to $1,400 to taxpayers who missed claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns.

What’s the Recovery Rebate Credit?

The Recovery Rebate Credit is for individuals who didn’t receive the full Economic Impact Payments (stimulus checks) during the pandemic.

After reviewing their records, the IRS found that around one million people didn’t claim it when they filed their 2021 taxes.

Now, the IRS is sending these payments automatically.

How Much Will You Get?

You could receive up to $1,400 per person. The IRS expects to send out $2.4 billion in total.

The IRS started sending payments and most people should receive them by February 2025.

If you have direct deposit with the IRS, the money will go directly into your account. If not, a paper check will be mailed.
 

Will It Impact Other Benefits?

No, this payment won’t affect your eligibility for programs like SSI, SNAP, or TANF. It’s not counted as income.
 

Don’t Miss Out

If you haven’t filed your 2021 return, you have until April 15, 2025, to claim this credit and any other refunds you’re owed.
